Common Insurance Disputes That Require A Lawyer

Most personal injury claims involve some kind of insurance dispute. Some of those claims are directly against the insurance company itself. These are called first party claims. As a Kansas City personal injury lawyer with over 20 years of experience, I handle a lot of first-party insurance disputes. Here are the most common I’ve seen in my practice as an insurance claims attorney.

Underinsured Motorist Claims

These are claims you make against your own insurance company when you get injured in a crash caused by someone who does not have enough insurance to cover your injuries and damages. To make such a claim, you must have underinsured motorist coverage on your car. The most common type of disputes with UIM claims is when your insurance company refuses to offer enough money compensation.

Uninsured Motorist Claims

These are also claims against your own insurance company. They arise when you are hit by someone who doesn’t have insurance. Nearly all car insurance policies provide this coverage. To make such a claim, you must show that the driver who hurt you did not have insurance or fled the scene and can’t be found.

Property Loss Claims

These claims pertain to damage or loss of property, not personal injury. They include car damage in crash cases and house damage from fires or floods. The most common dispute with these claims is value. Insurance companies almost never offer enough money compensation in these claims.
